最佳短中篇由加拿大科幻作家Peter Watts的Island获得。Peter曾经以长篇科幻小说《盲视》（Blindsight）获得2006年的雨果奖长篇提名，不过也从没有获得过雨果奖。《盲视》被誉为本世纪最佳的科幻长篇之一。下面是豆瓣网友calc的介绍。称其为“震惊”：

值得一提的是，Peter Watts于去年12月从美国回加拿大时，在美加边境被美国**搜查，殴打，并被判罚有罪，遭到罚款处罚，并不得再入境美国。详情见这里：

雨果奖，是“世界科幻协会”（World Science Fiction Society，简称WSFS）所颁发的奖项，自1953年起每年在世界科幻年会（World SF Convention）上颁发，只有1954年度停办。正式名称为“科幻成就奖”（The Science Fiction Achievement Award）,为纪念“科幻之父”雨果·根斯巴克（Hugo Gernsback），命名为雨果奖。堪称科幻艺术界的诺贝尔奖。在世界科幻界，雨果奖和星云奖被公认为最具权威与影响的两项世界性科幻大奖。为世界最重要的科幻大奖之一，由世界科幻协会颁发。

这里有一封疑似当年某剧情设定的人给HW2相关负责人写的Email，里面可以看到Peter Watt的大名：

Hi Rob,
So here's some HW2 backstory and the old script as per your request.
• "Homeworld 2 Story Progress 10 Pager Final Bullets.doc" was one of the first story docs we made back in 1999. It features most of the core narrative concepts we were exploring, some of which made it into the game
• The one entitled "Adam's Homeworld Empire Script.doc" was the version of the script we had before re-starting the project. It was assembled under the direction of Adam Bullied with input from the dev team and written by Peter Watts
• "New story spin.doc" was written by myself and represents the first crack at the Sajuuk premise we later developed
• "Background.doc" was written by Josh Mosqueira and provides more fleshed-out background to the Sajuuk Premise.
There was so much stuff it's hard to dig through it all, but these 4 docs pretty much sum up the development of the HW2 storyline throughout it's development.
